The Bowerbird & the Bride
It’s not often we get to attend exhibitions where weddings are showcased as artwork, so the bridal couture exhibition The Bowerbird and the Bride at Brisbane’s Old Government House is a lovely celebration of Australian weddings through the ages.
Marion Boyce’s collection of vintage bridal gowns is truly magnificent. The exquisite gowns, bridal accessories and memorabilia tell the stories and dreams of generations of brides. Beautifully showcased within the stunning Old Government House, this historic venue adds a further layer of character and storytelling to this fabulous exhibition.
The personal explanations and background knowledge of the pieces shared by Marion brings so much character to each gown together with an insight into the life and choices of yesteryear’s bride. We love that each display not only captures the dress styles of the era but also the essence of each bride and her vision for her wedding day.
In our age of Instagram and Pintrest where everyone is going bigger and better, it is humbling to remember these brides and what they were able to achieve to create the wedding day of their dreams.
This celebration of all things vintage has inspired our love for gorgeous vintage styling. So if your a vintage bride looking for inspiration then don’t miss the opportunity to visit The Bowerbird & the Bride exhibition and keep a look out on our Instagram feed for some of our favourite vintage chic inspiration.
